Questions for e-commerce experts

Hey guys,

I have a few questions for any e-commerce store owners, or anyone who has worked with one in the past. I've been running an e-commerce store for the past 6 months and I'm frustrated with the traffic.

How much content do you create? Is it worth my time to create original content on my category pages?

I know original product descriptions are helpful, but with 2000 products, that's a job. I don't mind the work, but I want to be sure it's valuable before I commit the time. How important are original product descriptions?

I've installed a news extension that let's me post articles. I've been writing/hand-spinning them myself about twice per week. Is this helpful for ranking, or am I wasting my time?

Is it worth paying someone a monthly fee to build a tiered link profile? Do these types of services support their own links? For example, if they create a web 2.0 property for me, will they continue to add content to that property over time so it builds PageRank itself? I worry that purchasing a one-time service will create fresh properties that eventually decay with updating. I've already purchased a couple BHW services and a couple Fiverr gigs (crokservice, mostly) and they've definitely helped me make some sales, but I need a more long-term strategy.

Do other sites still entertain link exchanging? For example, if I contact an authority site in my niche and offer to swap links, will I be ignored, or is that type of thing still done?

I've got a Facebook page, Twitter account, and LinkedIn profile. Are there any other places I should be maintaining a presence? Do I need a YouTube channel or something?

I'd love it if anyone wanted to give my site a quick once-over. I can't respond to PMs, so let me know here.

Thanks in advance for any help.
