SEO in 2013 - Website, Relevancy of content, what means a good backlink + SEO Blueprint

Current competition in SERPs of a specific keyword determines the amounts and sum of backlinks you need in order to have a solid 1# ranking. As I mentioned in my previous SEO thread you can start applying the method and as soon as you finish the entire campaign (finishing campaign includes indexing of backlinks) you will know exactly how many backlinks you need, according to the movements you just get after indexing.

In high competition niches having a solid website it's a must. A website that has a good and solid optimization. You can't go with the classic on-page and expect to outrank sites that are more autoritive than yours. If your competitiors have a solid and advanced optimization you will need also to have an advanced optimization. If your competitiors have the classic on-page SEO then let's say you will need 5-10% more than them. But overall, you need a solid site.

Website development & optimization

  • User experience: Time on site, bounce rate & avg. page views

Improve and create user experience! Design your website layout for visitors but at the same time use a clean (structured) code for the search engines. Invest some bucks in design and have a nice logo. You are into profitable niches now, you don't want to build bunch of micro niches to earn 3$/day, you want to have earnings of $xx,xxx/month with a site.

Don't make your website colorful. Choose only 3 or 4 colors and build everything along these. On the top (usually below logo) have a horizontally navigation bar with top 5 important pages of your site, and if you don't want to put a permalink on the logo you can add a "Home" button. However, I would recommend you to make your logo hyperlinked to the root domain. Have a clear and readable text, have a nice framing for your images and other media content and you already got a nice website.

Time on site & Bounce rate

According to your niche or type of visitors you may find some great methods to keep them on site. Reducing bounce rate isn't hard but it can be different from visitors to visitors, so try somehow to analyze your traffic. In a general, you can add videos (from my tests, this have given good results), you can add snippets to other interesting articles or at the end of each post add links to other related posts (see plugin: Wordpress Related Posts).

Page views
This is what makes the difference, is not different from bounce rate or the time spent on website by your visitors but that's what makes the difference from you and competition. Since you have targeted visitors, usually if you have great content, things like bounce rate or average page views wouln't be a problem, with great content you will only make the visitor to absorbe all the information and spend good time on the site. Also make sure you have good monetization for it, you don't want the visitor to only spend time reading you also want to sell them the business you promote (this is called conversion rate optimization, but I'm not gonna get that wide).

Website speed
Do you think someone wants to wait 5 seconds to see content of your website? Different conversion rate case studies showed me the website speed plays a good role in credibility and trust of a brand.

I'm sure you can find plenty of useful information on how to properly optimize your website in order to have good speed (everything under 2 seconds is best, depending on your website size). Website speed is a ranking factor considered by Google.

  • Relevancy: How Google sees relevant content

When writing your articles you know that the main goal is to have good content for your visitors. But in the same time the second main goal is to have a relevant article for the Google algo. I will show you what Google uses to value content of a website.

Firstly, keep in mind it's an algo and not a human who is valueing the content. You first want to hit for at least 600-800 words of unique content (don't make larger articles than 1500 words). Before even thinking to start writing, take your main keyword and research it. The trick is to fool Google that article is relevant, that means you need to find HOW he makes the assimilation with your keywords.

Let's say we have the keyword "link building services" and want to write one article on it. We're going to make a list of keywords that Google sees relevant for the main keyword. For that I will go to Adwords Keyword Tool and search for the keyword "link building services", make sure it's sorted by Relevance. Now I will look ONLY at the keywords that don't include the exact keyword, either way it will be considered keyword stuffing.

Now I have a bunch of keywords like "link builders" , "how to get backlinks" and "contextual link building". Remember, in some niches it may seem odd to include these kind of keywords but struggle and include them, it really makes the deal because the algo will be easily fooled in this. Ok, back to the keyword research, we are going to get even more and relevant keywords and phrases for our keywords.

To do this you will have to go to adwords Contextual Targeting Tool and one by one paste your keyword. Since our main keyword is very big we will need to use previous keywords we just found for Contextual Targeting Tool. So I'm going to see what I get for "link builders" , "how to get backlinks" , "contextual link building". A good way to find assimilated keywords is to just go google.com and search ~keyword (in our case: ~link builders) and look for other bolded keywords.

"link building packages"
"link builders"
"how to get backlinks"
"contextual link building"
"get quality backlinks"
"where to get backlinks"

From now it's pretty simple, you just have to include some of these keywords and write about them in the article of 600-800 words. This is not considered keyword stuffing, some of you may know this as LSI articles. As I said it might seem strange to write on that keywords but find a way and include some of them, the point is to trick the Google algo and see them in the page. That gives you 100% RELEVANT unique content.

Even if you write an article on link building services explaining benefits, link building strategies or whatever - it's not gonna be 100% relevant because the algo can't assimilate with something that he knows about. It makes sense. To increase relevancy of the article get some related pictures (on a 800 article would be reasonable no more than 2 pictures) edit their EXIF data with your contextual keywords and for then upload pictures with an alt tag.

Off-page SEO and Link Building

  • Differences between high and low quality backlinks

Backlinking these days is a matter of quality over quantity. Less is better. One good backlink is worth more than 1000 bad ones. You can't have long time rankings with the old spammy techniques, no matter what you say. You have to spam as a professional, not like one that blasts 1000 blog comments in 3 days but one that spends 3 days to build 10 high quality web 2.0 blogs.

Before to give you the step by step let's see how Google values backlinks recently.

1. Relevancy - a backlink from a niche relevant website is worth tons

2. Autorithy - Page Autorithy and Domain Autorithy is huge now, the more backlinks you have from website with high PA and high DA the better (but keep things natural)

3. Unique content - Google doesn't keep or values pages with duplicate content. It's useless to have a backlink from pages with duplicate or spunned content simply because you will have a hard time to index them in Google. And backlinks that are not indexed don't value a dime for your site.

4. Trust Flow - There is a nice metric launched recently by MajesticSEO which indicates the trust flow of a domain. Everything over 20 trustflow is powerful for your rankings, if it's going to have the other factors also, such as relevancy that is going to be a perfect link.

5. PageRank - I see PageRank for two different things. First, only if you care, is to increase your website PR and second, which from my experience is vital to do, is that you need to make the backlink profile look natural. By making it look natural means the PR of websites that link to you need to be like a pyramid (more PR0 < less PR1 < less PR2 < less PR3 < less PR4, you get it I hope.)

6. No-Follow/Do-Follow - again this can be seen as a way to diversify your backlink profile. Besides that Do-Follow links have still a good power on your backlink campaigns (so means that you need to get these), No-Follow ones can get you just to make the backlink profile look natural - No-Follow for link juice or ranking is useless.

7. EDU and GOV backlinks - These are still worth a lot, but of course I'm not talking about the spammy comments from EDU blogs. If you have a way for getting a blog post from a edu domain or a profile link from a gov domain it will skyrocket your website.

There are a few more things but I made sure I have included the most important ones.

What you need to understand.

High quality backlinks that matter are:

- any backlink from high autorithy (PA, DA) sites
- sites with trustflow (a smart SEOr will choose a backlink from a site that has high trustflow and low PR rather than high PR and low trustflow)
- sites relevant to your niche and site
- web 2.0 blogs with related (relevant) unique content
- social bookmarks with unique descriptions
- manual high PR blog comments from blogs, blogs should have no more than 5-10 OBLs
- video submission on youtube and top video sharing sites that lets you drop a hyperlink
- doc sharing (pdf) submission to ONLY high PR sharing sites
- private network posts from high PR blogs (I can't recommend you anyone for this)
- quality .EDU or .GOV backlinks (for example one unique article on a wiki .EDU means quality)

If you have an old website (at least 2 years) you can go with this blueprint in 2 or 3 weeks. If you have a brand new website the most recommended spread is 1 or 2 months (depending on how solid is your website).

  • How to create a natural list of keywords you will use for link building

This is called anchor diversity, which is very important when comes to medium or big sites. To do proper anchor diversity you will have to create a list of good and natural longtails related to your keyword. For example, let's deal with "link building services".

The list you will create needs to have generic and broad anchor keywords (ex: click here, more info, read more). You then need to make a list of keywords that are showing your brand or your domain name.

Then you will need to make some research and find longtails and LSI keywords. With 20 or 30 longtails, LSI and phrases you will be good. Attention! You only need to have 4-5 targeted and profitable keywords, the rest can have low searches, you only care to do anchor diversity and rank for that most important 4-5 keywords. Now that you have these you need to create some naked anchors for your domain. When you start building backlinks go for 60% generic, broad and naked URLs anchors, 20% longtail, variations of keywords, LSI and 20% your exact keywords.
