What's the best free way to access to my pc remotely

Hi,

I want to connect to my laptop when I am away from home.

Some says Logmein is good, but I saw that it was not free if I want to transfer files between the 2 pc's.

Teamviewer maybe? But I don't know if the session expires or not from a certain delay. I need a tool that can stay connected 24/24.
