Build your own high PR backlinks from SourceForge.net

I kind of stumbled across a technique tonight that I want to share with you guys. Firstly a couple of disclaimers:
  • This method does cost money (albeit small amounts)
  • I haven't tested this method, so you can call it a theory if you like

What we're aiming for: a high PR page with full control over content/links, on a sourceforge subdomain

How we're achieving it: creating a sourceforge account, utilising their "Sites" feature, and building PR through donations

Here are the steps taken to implement this:
  1. Create an account at sourceforge.net
  2. On your computer create an index.html file with whatever content/links you want (this will be the page we control)
  3. SFTP to frs.sourceforge.net using your login (docs here)
  4. Use the 'put' command to upload index.html
  5. Your page will now appear on your "Site" at [username].users.sourceforge.net with a grand PR of 0... obviously
  6. This page is linked to from your profile at sourceforge.net/users/[username] (on the root domain!)

Now the setup is done, it's time to build up your "Site" authority. This is where my theory kicks in, but it's nothing groundbreaking... Check it out yourself, these are do follow links. The only downside to the theory is the 2 tiers, but we're dealing with some high PRs here!

Time to get some juice flowing...
  1. Donate US$5 to sourceforge themselves (hey, they're giving us the ability to do this - right?)... PR4 backlink there
  2. Jump into ScrapeBox and use the footprint: site:https://sourceforge.net/project/project_donations.php
  3. Scrape as many results as you like, then run Check Pagerank
  4. Sort by PR, then visit the high PR results
  5. Donate away (it seems all projects have a minimum US$5 donation)

What happens here is your donations is automatically added to the project donations page, with a link back to your Profile. Your Profile has a link to your Site. Your Site is 100% in your control for both content & links.

The highest I've seen so far is a PR7, but most seem to be PR4-6... Either way, $5 a pop.

The big unknown at this stage is how many donations you would need to do in order to build your Site into a valuable asset. I scraped some user pages with "no recent events" (i.e. aiming for inactive users) and found plenty of PR4-6 profiles/sites, so it's feasible. I've thrown $50 at donations to see what comes of it over the next couple of months.

If you found this interesting or useful, I'd love a thanks!
